So I thought I would get a bit of sewing done before the baby arrives!
Now, I couldn’t carry out my plan of making a long/maxi skirt from my Tsuru-crane print because I’m not quiiiiiite the right size at the moment…
BUT! I thought I would make at least a kimono-influenced wrap dress/waistcoat thing, in the current trend of Oriental-inspired blouson/bomber jackets. The back is my custom-printed cotton-silk mix design from Spoonflower (which you can now BUY for yourself, if you want to make anything from it! You get 4 perfect repeats at 40” width over 3 yards - http://www.spoonflower.com/designs/1381751) The front is a semi-opaque black georgette with floral swirls. I added gathers at the shoulder for a bit more interest.
And the cool thing about this design is that it’s really versatile, as I can even clip it at the bust/waist for a fitted dress (no matter what size I am).
Speaking of my size - I am finally beginning to look really, like, properly, pregnant. And only now, when the baby’s head is engaging and I’m due to give birth in less than a fortnight :P
Oh yeah, I WILL vent ever so slightly - just because I carry smaller doesn’t mean I’m carrying a tiny baby (thankfully, I’m confident enough to take such comments as a compliment that I’m maintaining an elegant appearance, rather than freaking out that I or my baby aren’t normal), or that I’m not hurting as much as any other mother who carries larger (big babies even run in my family and I’ve gained the correct weight, so I don’t expect him to be a mere 5lbs). I suffer as much backache, groin ache, bad plumbing etc., but I just don’t talk about it much in public!
As part of my birthday celebrations, I had a lovely BBQ in the garden over the bank holiday a couple of weeks ago at my new house (which is still undergoing work, but that didn’t stop us!). I really can’t wait until we’re able to move in properly!
I’m wearing a silk scarf print kaftan I bought in Thailand, M&S maternity tights, black Rocket Dog ballet pumps and H&M long-sleeved crop top, glasses/shades by Joop.
I’m coming up to 37 weeks now and I still look almost the same as I did in this photo ^^ At my midwife appointment last Friday, I’m still measuring small, but the two midwives there had a good poke and said that #PrinceLeong felt fine and that he should be over the minimum threshold for normal delivery at the Rosie Birth Centre (which is AMAZING, the rooms are so nice with mood lighting, pull down double bed, drug outlets from every wall, a birthing pool in every room and an iPod dock for relaxing music! Fingers crossed that on the day, there’ll be space for me!).
And to finish off this post, here is a picture of Matt is being unnecessarily manly, using his Black&Decker to vent the BBQ…
Sunny day! Makes it much easier to walk over a mile to the local supermarket and back when 8 months pregnant! The nice bank holiday weather has meant EVERYONE and their dog has done a run on the big Tescos for BBQ supplies, but I’ve been planning to have one tomorrow for ages now D: This is where having a local Co-op comes into play, people don’t think to go there!
And outfit rundown: maternity vest and leggings from eBay, blouse from GSP Sport, glasses/shades Silhouettes, bag Desigual, sandals Accessorize.
Had a lovely day out today with friends and got some fab photos taken of me, the bump and the husband by the amazing Lunameth or Lisa Curtis Bump aka #PrinceLeong is now 33 weeks, so it’s not very long now!
Outfit - maternity vest and linen trousers from eBay, bolero jacket River Island, scarf Accesorize, glasses/sunglasses Bulgari, perfume necklace Daisy by Marc Jacobs, ankle boots ASOS.
Today I was giving my last workshop/public appearance at the Cambridge Wordfest (http://www.cambridgewordfest.co.uk/) - and I know it’s kinda lazy of me, but I didn’t even try to publicise it much because it sold out completely and I had a full house. The pop-up book store even had a whole stack of my latest book, 101 Top Tips from Professional Manga Artists (http://www.amazon.co.uk/101-Tips-Professional-Manga-Artists/dp/1781570302/) which sold to the point of only 4 copies left. So it went really well, nice to end this year’s workshops on a high :)
So #PrinceLeong is due in less than 8 weeks and I look like THIS. By all accounts from the doctor a couple of weeks ago, he’s perfectly normal and doing well, so he must be ridiculously vampiric… which in a way is good. I’m eating as much as I can, but I’m not putting on major weight, yet he’s growing okay, so that means he must be sucking out the fat from my bigger bum. Right? Right? … I can feel him hiccuping now, so he’s definitely capable of swallowing :/
Anyway, outfit rundown: floral vest from Christopher Kane, jeggings from M&S maternity, cardigan from La Redoute, shoes from Office, frilled trenchcoat from Love Label, bag Chanel, glasses Bulgari.
It’s been a while since my last maternity fashion post. So here’s a little update! Both are mostly comprised of normal clothes (yup, still wearing dresses and t-shirts for my usual size at over SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT…)
The grey dress is a gorgeous bamboo jersey number from La Redoute several years ago, but I tied the ribbon just under the bust rather than at the waist. It stretches and drapes really nicely over my bump. The grey feather hair band was from Claire’s Accessories, and my gorgeous frilled ankle boots were from a Hong Kong seller on eBay. Grey/purple fancy stalk rimless glasses from Silhouette. I like this dress because it really highlights the bump - and Prince Leong is definitely a vampire flat-pack baby, as he still insists on only coming out at night. Mostly.
The casual outfit does have maternity leggings (as they are more comfy), but the white, long sleeved crop top is H&M and the blue t-shirt is one of my favourites, Marc by Marc Jacobs. The flat black leather shoes are from Rocket Dog, super comfy with padded lining. Feather earrings also from H&M. Glasses Prada.
Maternity fashion post #6! So I’m 28 weeks / almost 7 months and even just today one of the teachers at the school I was teaching at didn’t notice I was pregnant until I showed her my blog XD Nobody can tell if I’m wearing my blue parka… but it’s like, dude, I’m 7 months along!!! WTH?! #PrinceLeong is still proving to be the ultimate IKEA flat-pack ninja baby.
Anyway. The lowdown on today’s outfit. Gold shawl (worn as a headscarf) from Accessorize, gold/white rimless glasses from Vivienne Westwood, gold/black/faux pearl costume necklace from H&M, navy blue w/ gold buttons military blouse and black/gold brocade stretch pencil skirt from ASOS maternity, black/white brogues from Chie Mihara, blue metallic down-filled jacket from SUNA.
And maternity tights with hidden support for the belly is a godsend, very comfy and almost acts like you’re putting a hand underneath to help hold it up XD
Alternative clothing for babies
First off, I HATE typical gender-stereotyped baby clothes. Yes, I know he’s going to be a boy, but the last thing I will do is dress him in the usual blue stuff with cars and footballs. *shudder*
Second, I am very picky with my own fashion and I want my little #PrinceLeong to be adorned appropriately to match. Much as there are cute, super bright things out there, it’s not really ideal unless I were wearing sweet lolita outfits myself, and I am much more classical/pirate with my goth/loli/alternative styles and when wearing more mainstream fashion, whatever I wear, it’s not f**king pastel.
As such, I have a plan in place for all the basic vests/sleepsuits… MONOCHROME zebra stripes and dots, or RED/GREY hem accents ♥ Striking and stylish!
SO - that leaves the FUN stuff, like actual outfits for going out, daywear and visitors.
If people want to buy me any clothes for the baby, please give me cash (NOT vouchers, as not only would I be tied to one store’s items, but you never know when a store is going to go under these days!) OR you can safely buy knowing I will like it, from the following shop:
Seriously, those striped tattoo pirate onesies from Six Bunnies are amazing; very pirate-loli, very Christian Audigier.
Anything else in other styles may be subject to being burnt/given to charity, and I will tell you upon receiving such a thing, regardless of how much I like you as a person. You have been warned!
A bit more of a preppy look today as I check my Year of the Snake calendar! Can I just say how much I LOVE stretchy maternity pencil skirts? The high waist is so cute, I can imagine wearing this even when I’m not pregnant, with a little shirt or vest tucked in, or with anything loosely thrown on top. What’s great is that it keeps me happy and ‘ventilated’ down below XD so that the bad plumbing (which NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT when you get pregnant) gets some respite. I tried to pick a photo which shows off the 24 week bump as much as possible (in all the others, it looks smaller T-T)
